Top Tips For Your Wedding Confetti Moment
I’m a Yorkshire wedding photographer and love capturing joyful, colourful, and relaxed moments! One of my favourite parts of the wedding day is confetti! There’s just something magical about it that makes the celebrations even more special!

Why Do We Throw Confetti
Confetti has been bringing the party vibes for centuries, long before your guests were sneakily stuffing extra handfuls into their pockets. It all started in ancient Rome, where people tossed grains of rice and flower petals at newlyweds as a symbol of fertility and prosperity (basically, the original “may your marriage be fruitful” gesture). Fast forward to the Renaissance in Italy, and the idea evolved, except instead of petals, they chucked sugared almonds and tiny candies, but also a potential trip to the dentist or head injury!! Thankfully, the Victorians refined things with paper confetti, and by the time weddings became the Instagram-worthy affairs we know today, biodegradable petals and eco-friendly paper bits took centre stage. So here we are, keeping the tradition alive, one perfectly timed, slow-motion confetti throw at a time!

MORE IS MORE
Confetti has this amazing power to turn everyday moments into super special memories. Just imagine a burst of colors and pure joy as you and your partner step into this exciting new chapter together. It’s not just about how it looks; confetti really captures all the fun and happiness of your big day. Trust me, guests turn into little kids again when you hand them a handful of this stuff! And LESS IS DEFINITELY NOT MORE IN THIS CASE!! The more you provide the better the images will be.
I could go on and on about how awesome confetti is, but instead, I’ve put together a blog and selection of images with all the details for you to check out!

Remember “More is More” – Order Extra Confetti
When it comes to confetti, the mantra is clear: “more is more.” Consider ordering an abundance of confetti to guarantee you have plenty on hand for crafting those unforgettable moments and capturing stunning Hero Shots for your photo gallery. After enjoying a classic confetti tunnel, any leftover confetti can be transformed into a spectacular all-at-once toss, creating a vibrant kaleidoscope of colours and joy that will get the fun images as you get covered. I always recommend supplying the confetti in baskets so guests can grab larger handfuls from your designated helpers. This is usually done after the ceremony as guests leave the church or venue. Ushers and bridesmaids are great at this job.
When it comes to confetti, paper disks are truly the way to go! They come in such a wide array of gorgeous colors that you can easily match with your themes. If you want to make a statement, going for a rainbow mix is my favorite choice! They look fantastic when they fly up into the air and gently float down, making for beautiful photos. I always suggest biodegradable confetti too, we need to look after the wildlife and environment.

Confetti + First Dance = Pure Magic!
Confetti cannons, simple, but seriously effective. It’s a little wedding photography trick that’s never let me down. They add instant drama, movement, and that extra bit of magic to your first dance photos.
Go for silver or gold, those beauties catch the light perfectly, making everything look extra dreamy. Cannons are ideal for that big, impactful burst, but if your venue has a mezzanine, get your guests to hurl handfuls over you for a real wow moment. Either way, you’ll have epic, light-catching confetti magic in your photos!
And here’s the sneaky bonus, if the thought of dancing in front of everyone makes you want to run for the hills, confetti is the perfect distraction! Guests will be too busy watching the sparkly magic to notice your two-step shuffle. Double win!

One Last Thing
When it comes to your confetti moment, there are two golden rules: don’t look down and walk as if you’re gliding through a rom-com finale. It’s tempting to watch the confetti as it flies, but trust me, the best shots happen when your chin is up, your eyes are sparkling, and you’re soaking in the moment. Looking down can lead to awkward angles (hello, double chin), and rushing through will cut the magic short. Remember, keep the pace super slow, think elegant, not escaping a rainstorm, so your photographer has plenty of time to capture that dreamy, fluttering confetti magic. Enjoy every step, and let the petals (or eco-friendly paper bits) do their thing!
Now, go forth and let the petals (or biodegradable paper bits) fly!
