The moment I met Hannah and Adam, I knew that my job at Whafledale Grange would be a breeze that day. Their wedding promised a vibrant celebration, brimming with joy, laughter, and perhaps a few spirited dance moves. With their energy and the lively company of their friends, they truly crafted an unforgettable day. Looking back at the images, I can’t help but smile as I relive the excitement and joy of their incredible wedding at Whafledale Grange!
PHOTOGRAPHING HANNAH’S GLAM-UP
I arrived in the morning to find Hannah’s hair and make-up. She was surrounded by her 8 bridesmaids and her beautiful mother, Alison. Hannah got ready from her and Adman’s wonderful home, with the walls filled with many amazing pictures from their lives. Hannah had kept the details of her dress from Harrogate Wedding Lounge a secret from most of her bridesmaids except her maid of honour until she did the big reveal. The girls’ faces were an absolute picture – mouths a wander, shrieks of delight and a few tears – with Hannah beaming the brightest. See for yourself just how stunning she looked. A Moment of Appreciation For Hannah!!
THE CEREMONY
St. John’s Parish Church, located in the charming village of Baildon, offers a beautiful setting for capturing special moments. With its impressive windows allowing plenty of natural light, the church creates striking, contrast-filled images, particularly when the sun shines brightly. This beautiful light adds an extra touch of drama to the scene, inspiring me to play with it and craft unique images for my clients that they won’t find on any smartphone. One of the moments Hannah told me she would be upset if she didn’t have was her way into church with her dad. And I love these images; the anticipation in Hannah and the proud look on her fantastic dad’s face was super touching.
Time For The Bubbles
After the ceremony, I scooted ahead of the new Mr and Mrs Mitchell to catch them arriving for their champagne welcome, which was excellent just outside of the Cart Barn. I captured one of my favourite photos of Hannah and Adam tucking into their bubble. It’s nothing technically brilliant; it’s just the simplicity of the moment that I love so much. It’s a real “we did it” moment.
We were supremely fortunate with the weather, considering it was an Autanmal wedding; after the confetti, everyone stayed outside the Cart Barn for drinks in the courtyard, where the mingling commenced. Group photographers started and got off to a great start, ending with some frolicking around from Hannah & Adams’s hilarious gang. Then, the three of us snook off through the little secret door to the stunning Georgian grade two listed farmhouse that stood waiting for us in all its glory for ten minutes of peace away from the mayhem. We captured some incredible portraits with the gorgeous tines of autumn. If you are nervous about your portraits, read my article on my 6 top tips.
Portraits
Along Came The Speeches
Into the very impressive North Barn, everyone went for dinner and speeches. I love it when my couples let out all their emotions and everything they feel during the day, so when Hanna and Adam arrived at their top table after such a raucous entrance, I loved this image so much; it shows the vibe of the day and how much fun loving they both are.
The North Barn has rustic trestle-style tables, lavish lighting (including deluxe chandeliers and fairy lights), luxury furnishings, an upper mezzanine, and the awesome copper glitter ball! It is an impressive place to stand before all your loved ones to deliver the speeches, and these guys did not disappoint. Hannah’s mum and dad, AKA Alison and Tim, presented the speech in a true ‘This is your Life form’, complete with the Red Book. There was not a dry eye in the house!!
Light
The light in autumn can be stunning, and the warm, low sun just before sunset can be a photographer’s dream; I get so giddy when I see this kind of light. And it did not shy away from Hannah and Adam’s day. I quickly grabbed the pair and stood in the car park, ‘yes the car park’, where the golden hour was epic. ‘You gotta go where the light takes you’, and Voila, we captured these breathtaking beauties.
Give Me Grit On The Dance Floor!
I had a great time immersed in the vibrant atmosphere—my happy place where the mood is infectious. I absolutely love the dance floor photos, capturing moments when everyone lets loose and, who doesn’t want a tremendous glitter ball over the dance floor with confetti cannons while you bust your moves? Yes, please. And don’t forget the Espresso Martinis to keep up the dancing energy!!
And Finally
It’s the best feeling to be welcomed with open arms by Adam and Hannah’s friends and family. Being a wedding photographer is a fantastic job, and I’m grateful for every day I get to do it.
