Newton Hall Northumberland Wedding

There’s something a bit magic about Newton Hall. Tucked away in the stunning Northumberland countryside, it’s a venue that somehow manages to feel grand and elegant, yet wonderfully relaxed all at once. And that vibe was the perfect match for Charlie and Ryan, a pair who absolutely nailed the balance between laid-back and stylish. Their day was packed with personality, heaps of laughter, and a few unexpected twists (the good kind, no runaway best men or overly enthusiastic aunties with karaoke dreams, promise).

Charlie & Ryan

If you’re planning your own Newton Hall wedding or just fancy a nosey at a day filled with effortless elegance and genuine love, stick around, this one’s a beauty.

Morning Prep, Nerves & A Lot Of Laughter

Now, if you’ve ever wondered what bridal prep at Newton Hall looks like, let me tell you , it’s nothing short of a dream. Charlie and her crew got ready in one of the hall’s charming suites, filled with natural light (which, as a photographer, I was thrilled about, hello, dreamy soft portraits!).

There was a definite buzz in the room – a mix of excitement, a touch of nervous energy, and plenty of giggles. The prosecco was flowing, and so were the stories. Charlie’s girls kept the vibe light with plenty of banter, while her mum fussed over the final details with that perfect blend of maternal precision and teary-eyed pride.

Charlie looked absolutely breathtaking in her boho-inspired lace gown. The delicate floral detailing and sweeping train gave her the most ethereal look, while her wild, unstructured bouquet (think creamy roses, sprigs of eucalyptus, and untamed greenery) added a touch of whimsy. The finishing touch? A relaxed, wavy hairstyle that gave off serious ‘effortlessly cool bride’ vibes.

Meanwhile, over in another corner of Newton Hall, Ryan and his groomsmen were suiting up, with significantly less hairspray and a lot more whisky. Dressed in classic navy suits with subtle classic accents, they struck that perfect balance of smart yet relaxed. I grabbed a few candid shots of the lads buttoning up jackets, sharing pre-ceremony jokes, and, of course, doing the classic “who’s got the rings?” check at least three times.

The Ceremony – I Do’s With

The ceremony itself was held in Newton Hall’s stunning glasshouse-style space, and let me tell you – it was a stunner. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the rolling Northumberland countryside, creating the perfect backdrop as Charlie and Ryan exchanged their vows.

Now, if you think you’re not the emotional type, this ceremony would have proved you wrong. As Charlie walked down the aisle, Ryan’s reaction was everything. That perfect mix of trying (and failing) to hold back tears while beaming with pride. The kind of look that makes you remember why wedding photography is such a privilege.

Their vows were personal and heartfelt, with plenty of smiles, a few teary chuckles, and the odd glance towards their loved ones, the kind of moment where you can feel the love in the room. And when they sealed it with a kiss, the whole place erupted in cheer

Post-Ceremony Confetti & Candid Joy

As Charlie and Ryan walked back down the aisle, hand in hand as newlyweds, they were met with a shower of colourful confetti. Their guests were clearly pros at the art of throwing, petals soared through the air in a perfectly messy flurry.

Once the confetti cloud had settled (and everyone had dusted themselves off), we jumped into group photos. Keeping things snappy and fun, we breezed through the must-haves with plenty of banter to keep the energy up. Their bridal party was an absolute riot, cracking jokes, pulling spontaneous poses, and bringing heaps of personality to every shot.

Couple Portraits – Wild, Windy & Wonderful

After the “group images were in the bag” and a flurry of hugs, we jumped in the car and made a dash for the beach, because when you’ve got the Northumberland coast on your doorstep, you make the most of it. With  15 minutes to play with, Charlie absolutely rocked the seaside vibe in her leather jacket and boots, giving the whole look a laid-back, effortlessly cool edge.

We strolled along the beachfront, letting the wind have its way with veils and hair (which, in my book, only makes the photos better). There’s something about shooting on the beach , it has this raw, unpolished connection to nature that I love. The shifting light, the unpredictable breeze, it makes me push my creativity, finding quirky compositions and fresh ways to frame the moment. And let me tell you, we created some absolute bangers, wild, windswept, and packed with personality.

The Reception – Wild Feasting & Dance Floor Mayhem

As the sun dipped lower, everyone made their way into Newton Hall’s rustic-chic reception space. Think exposed brick, fairy lights, and long banquet tables adorned with wild foliage and candles – the stuff of wedding Pinterest boards.

The meal itself was a feast of sharing platters, the kind of food that gets everyone reaching across the table, clinking glasses, and swapping stories. There were heartfelt speeches (with just the right amount of embarrassing stories) and plenty of spontaneous laughter.

Then came the dance floor – and trust me, it did not disappoint. Charlie and Ryan kicked things off with a first dance that was equal parts sweet and playful. None of that slow shuffle nonsense – they twirled, laughed, and had the best time. And once the band fired up, there was no going back….. then cue dance floor mayhem,  shirts untucked, shoes abandoned, and plenty of “Oh, this is my song!” moments. I may or may not have thrown myself into the crowd for some wild, mid-jump action shots,  because let’s face it, that’s where the best memories are made.

A Photographer’s Perspective Shooting At Newton Hall

Photography is, at its core, a documentary art. The camera itself is just a tool, much like a paintbrush or a chef’s knife. You could hand the same camera to two people, and while one might capture a fleeting, magical moment, the other might accidentally snap a blurry shot of their own shoes. The difference? Experience, instinct, and knowing when to press the shutter, something that only comes from years of honing your craft.

Now, shooting a November wedding at Newton Hall comes with its own set of creative challenges, and that’s exactly why I love it. The light, lower in the sky, is softer and moodier, creating a beautifully atmospheric glow. Autumn weddings here are a dream, with the golden hues of fallen leaves scattered across the grounds and that gentle, diffused light filtering through the bare branches.

On Charlie and Ryan’s day, the weather threw us a classic British autumn cocktail…a mix of dramatic skies, fleeting sun, and a cool breeze that gave the whole day a slightly wild, romantic feel. When it comes to lighting, November offers a unique palette. The sun never gets too high, which means you get this gorgeous, cinematic side light all day long, perfect for rich, dramatic portraits. It’s the kind of light that adds mood and texture, creating depth without the harsh shadows you sometimes get in summer.

One of the standout features at Newton Hall is the mix of backdrops. From the rustic brick walls and quirky vintage doors to the wild gardens and sandy dunes just down the road, it’s a playground for creativity..

Honestly, autumn weddings at Newton Hall have a special kind of magic, there’s a rawness to the light, a richness in the colours, and a sense of intimacy that just hits differently. It’s the perfect season for creating atmospheric, storytelling images that feel timeless and real.

Why I Love Newton Hall Weddings

There’s a reason Newton Hall weddings have a special place in my heart. It’s one of those rare venues that ticks all the boxes: stunning scenery, stylish interiors, and a relaxed vibe that lets couples fully be themselves.

And that’s what I love capturing the real stuff. The stuff that makes you look back at your photos years down the line and feel everything all over again.
