Located in the heart of Madeira’s rich cultural heritage, the historical gem, Restaurant Do Forte, offers a unique glimpse into the past. Its roots can be traced back to the 17th century when the Portuguese constructed the Historical Fortress of São Tiago to safeguard the city against pirate and privateer attacks.
As a destination wedding photographer in Madeira, I was thrilled to be a part of Olivia and Sergio’s special day at this magnificent location in Funchal Portugal. The historical fortress, with its triangular shape, three bastions, fortified wall, and central tower, provided a unique and picturesque backdrop. The breath-taking panoramic views added to the setting for a wedding celebration.

Every aspect of Olivia and Sergio’s wedding exuded romance and splendour, from exchanging vows against the backdrop of the panoramic Maderia coastline to the joyous celebrations under the open sky. The mustard yellow fortress of Restaurant Do Forte in Madeira provided a unique and eye-catching backdrop for portrait compositions. The fortress’s strong geometric lines and vibrant colour allowed for creative and striking portrait compositions. Capturing the juxtaposition of the historical architecture and open sky resulted in captivating and unconventional angles for the portraits. The quirky angles and compositions featuring the mustard yellow ForteForte added an artistic and contemporary flair to the wedding photography, making the portraits stand out. I love the pops of yellow against some of the decaying walls.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the fortress and the surrounding area, I had the opportunity to capture some truly mesmerizing images of the newlyweds. The interplay of light and shadow and the grandeur of the historical setting created mesmerizing and dramatic effects for their portraits. The pair even shared a little dance as I shot from above.
The day concluded with a jubilant celebration filled with laughter, music, and dancing, making for some of the most memorable candid shots. The joy and spirit of the occasion shone through in every photograph.
