A Yorkshire Young Farmers Wedding Like No Other

I love photographing weddings from Sheffield, Yorkshire and beyond and here’s one that will certainly stay with me.

Sheffield Young Farmers Wedding

Lauren & Ben

Some weddings just have that extra bit of magic, and Lauren and Ben’s wedding? Oh, it had it all, tradition, personality, cows, and one of the liveliest evening parties I’ve ever photographed. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when two young Yorkshire farmers tie the knot, let me paint you a picture (with a lot of cows, a bit of brass, and some serious partying).

The Morning Prep – Farmhouses & The Pennines

The day kicked off with Ben and the lads getting ready at the Dog & Partridge in Bordhill, right on the foot of the Yorkshire Pennines. That stretch over the A628 to Manchester is wild and rugged, perfect for a bunch of farmers preparing for a day that was anything but ordinary.

Meanwhile, over at Daisy Hill Farm, Lauren was in full bride mode. Her family home set the perfect scene for the morning, a hive of activity with bridesmaids dashing about, final dress tweaks, and Sally, Lauren’s mum, putting the finishing touches on the flowers. And let me just say, these bridesmaids were absolute stunners! Gorgeous, supportive, and ready to celebrate their girl in style.

The Ceremony – A Chapel With A Twist

Now, Bullhouse Chapel isn’t your typical wedding venue. It’s privately owned, the family live in the hall next door, and there’s still a working farm on-site. Cosy doesn’t even begin to describe it, imagine 60 people packed into the chapel, while the remaining guests filtered to the outside, creating a buzzing, electric atmosphere.

But the best bit? The Young Farmers’ Guard of Honour. It’s tradition, and let’s be honest, absolutely iconic. Instead of swords or flowers, these guys form an arch with pitchforks for the newlyweds to walk through. Farming meets fairytale in the best way possible.

Marquee Magic & The Best Beef You’ve Ever Had

From the chapel, it was straight to the stunning marquee by Mudford Marquees, styled in a purple, heather moorland, cottage garden dream. Now, I’ve seen some beautifully put-together weddings in my time, but Lauren’s mum, Sally? She absolutely smashed it with the flowers. It was like stepping into a blooming Yorkshire meadow, bursting with colour and completely them.

As guests settled in, Thurlstone Brass Band welcomed the newlyweds in true Yorkshire style. Then, just when everyone thought they’d seen it all-boom-an Oompah Band stormed in after the meal. If you’ve never watched a wedding crowd go from polite conversation to full-on beer hall chaos in seconds, trust me, it’s a sight to behold. Tables were shaking, people were dancing, the atmosphere was off the charts.

Now, every wedding has a Master of Ceremonies, but Lauren’s brother, Run? He owned it. Had the guests in stitches, ran the day like a pro, and honestly, he could go full-time with this. Someone needs to book him, his banter is gold dust.

And the food? Oh my days. F4D Events put on an absolute feast. Ben and Lauren, being cow farmers and M&S suppliers, provided all the meat for their own wedding. How incredible is that? The beef was hands down the best I’ve ever tasted. And don’t even get me started on the cauliflower cheese, pure, cheesy perfection. Evening guests were treated to the most amazing pork pies and sausage rolls, because, let’s be honest, what’s a Yorkshire wedding without proper grub?

That Time I Got Hoisted Up By A JCB

We had some serious business to attend to, the big group shot. And when you’ve got a wedding this epic, you don’t just stand on a chair. Oh no. I was hoisted up in a JCB. A little terrifying? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely. Turns out, heavy machinery might just be my new favourite way to get that perfect shot.

Now, I love photographing wedding day group shots. Once the more traditional, formal portraits are ticked off, that’s when the real fun begins. Weddings are all about personality, and group shots should be no different. Whether it’s a big, joy-filled confetti throw, a “let’s all pile in and squeeze together” kind of moment, or even something totally off the wall, I always find a way to bring some energy and fun into the mix.  The key? Keep it quick, keep it relaxed, and never let it feel like a school photo session. If you want your group shots to be stress-free, fun, and full of life, check out my top tips for nailing them here:

Relaxed & Natural Wedding Portraits In Yorkshire

II know this sounds like a sergeant major, but working backwards from when you need to be ready and creating a timeline for the morning will, in the long run, help it run more smoothly.

It’s easy to lose track of time. Knowing who is scheduled for hair and makeup at any time can help you stay organised and on schedule during the wedding day. I highly recommend delegating this task to a trusted bridesmaid so that you can have some time to relax and enjoy the special day.” Remember to allow extra time. I promise you, it will be a lifesaver.

Plan to put your dress on at least 30 minutes before you leave or when the registers have given you the time to speak to them. This is all for the dress to be put on correctly. Fastening them up takes longer than you think!! People who do it daily show you in the shop, and by the time you get to your wedding, mums and bridesmaids have forgotten. Long, manicured nails are often tricky for mums/bridesmaids to fasten the wedding dress. A particular dress or crochet hook helps with small fiddley fastenings over the buttons. Once your dress is on, it’s time for the last flurries, makeup touch-ups, a glass of bubbles, a few deep breaths and giggles with your besties. And, if you are ready with plenty of time, we can get some stunning bridal and finely images. Trust me, it is better to be prepared and dress d. It is a much calmer, more relaxed experience for you.

The Biggest Evening Do I’ve Ever Shot

Now, let’s talk about that evening party. Over 300 guests turned up, making it the largest evening do I’ve ever shot. If you know anything about young farmers, you’ll know they don’t just party, they take it as a competitive sport. The dance floor was absolute carnage in the best way, fuelled by great music, a lot of energy, and, let’s be honest, probably a fair few pints. And as the sun dipped, the twinkly lights around the marquee transformed it into a sparkling wonderland.

The Verdict? 10/10

This wasn’t just a wedding it was a full-on celebration of everything Lauren and Ben are about. It had family, farming, incredible food, traditions, and the kind of party that will be talked about for years. If this is what every young farmer’s wedding is like, sign me up for more.

Lauren & Ben, thank you for letting me capture your incredible day. It was fun, chaotic, and utterly unforgettable.
