Georgia & Ben Durham University

Durham University, located in Durham, England, is the third-oldest University in England. The University is well-known for its stunning architecture, with many of its buildings constructed in the Romanesque style, including the iconic Durham Castle and Cathedral, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Castle, originally built in the 11th century, now serves as a college for the University, making it a unique and historic residence for students. This is where the wonderfully gorgeous Gee met Ben, AKA Bean! It is the perfect place for them to tie the knot and hold their super relaxed wedding.

What Gee & Bean Say

Sarah is an absolute dream in every single way – she’s so lovely, patient, fun and hard working, and her photos are incredible. Really couldn’t have asked for more, and we’ve already recommended her to many of our newlywed friends!!

Georgia & Ben

They said their vows in the stunning St. Oswald’s Church, also famous for its scenic location, offering spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and the River Wear. The church dates back to the medieval period and has a rich history. Its interior boasts beautiful stained glass windows, intricate woodwork, and ornate stone carvings. The church dates back to the medieval period and has a rich history. Once the ceremony was over and Ben had a wifey for lifey, we had to shower Gee & Bean in confetti, along with lots of hugs and congratulations, aka, hug fest. This is by far one of my favourite parts of a wedding day.

After the ceremony, it made perfect sense to take the scenic walk back to the University, over the incredible bridge and through the cobbled streets. It was so much fun, including the ushes carrying all the fantastic florals by Claire – go check out her Instagram

We even stopped for a relaxed and laid-back group shot at the foot of the bridge, just like I like them!

The university campus is in a picturesque setting overlooking the city of Durham, famous for its winding cobbled streets, historic marketplaces, and the River Wear that runs through the city. The medieval Durham Cathedral and the Norman-era Durham Castle add to the city’s charm, and the surrounding green landscapes make it a breathtaking location for studying and holding your wedding.

Once we got back to the reception, it was time for some mingling and drinks, and then we started to photograph the group images. Ben and Georgia are keen to keep this relaxed and informal with no fuss—music to my ears!! Couples can tend to get stressed over group images; I always advise around 10 images as they take longer than you think, 2/3 minutes per image. A top tip – A fabulous way of speeding up your group images is to designate a person who knows everyone to help prepare them for each image.

Once the group images were done, we took 10 minutes to capture some wedding portraits. Portraits don’t have to be posed and awkward, either. The best photographs are moments between laughs, giggles, and little glances. So, it was a chilled, relaxed few minutes where Ge and Ben could catch their breath and spend time with each other.

We had a few giggles along the way, too. The bridal party all met at University, and what a gorgeous set of humans. Oh, I forgot to mention. I had previously photographed Lizzy and Jack’s wedding, so I knew how these guys could party!! It is always lovely and means so much when I photograph friends of friends’ weddings. The speeches were on point; Felix Bean’s best man was incredible at public speaking and made the perfect speech. There was lots and lots of laughter.

Once the party started, IT STARTED!!!! These guys can let it rip. There were some serious moves on the dance floor, which was fun.

Not all light is equal. Light is crucial in any photography, so it was a joy to capture some cheeky portraits during one of the 10-minute portrait sessions at golden hour with Gee and Bean.

I loved being part of this wedding day. It still baffles me how my couples entrusted me with such a significant part of their lives, and I get to spend time with them and all their loved ones to witness it all. What a joy!
